The Umbrella

Sonya was my lunch buddy among my buddy for other interests that we both shared. We also had our select restaurants that we would frequent when our palates would beckon. This one afternoon, when it was raining out, we went to one of our restaurants, "Sarafina" for lunch. Lunch was over, the rain stopped and we headed back to the office. As we were riding in the elevator to our respective floors, Sonya hands me the umbrella she was carrying and said to me here is your umbrella. I said that is not my umbrella, where did you get it, and she said from the restaurant. She picked up someone else's umbrella thinking it was mine. I told her you stole someone's umbrella and we laughed all the way up to our floors and everytime we went out to lunch I would say, don't steal anyone's umbrella. I also found out that Sonya would loan the umbella out to anyone in the office that didn't have one and say - here use the umbrella I stole. Sonya, my dearest friend, I will miss you terribly. I was fortunate to know you and enjoy your Southern charm and admire the beautiful person you were. You were always there for me when I needed a friend. I have your picture on my desk that your son "Mo" had made up and it gives me comfort to look at it. Rest in peace my dear friend. Maria
