Remembrances of Sal Barone & Family

My parents, Michael & Philomena (Phyllis) Attanasio enjoyed a long close relationship with the Barone family. Therefore, I have known Uncle Sal my entire 72 years of life. Uncle Sals sister, Domenica, was my mothers maid of honor on April 11, 1942. As a child, I vividly remember many visits to 67 Lake Ave, Tuckahoe, NY. The Barone family certainly had the gift of hospitality. I always looked forward to visiting them. I remember the beautiful winter miniature town displays during the Christmas holidays. Also, on the 4th of July weekend, we would all walk down to the lake to watch an hour of one of the most spectacular land & aerial fireworks displays that I have ever witnessed as a child. Another memorable event was the selecting of Uncle Sal as my sponsor for my Confirmation. He was a great godly role model to me as he exhibited his gentle and caring demeanor towards me. He was truly a man of great honesty & integrity. I also remember when he gifted me with a chemistry set and microscope including specimen slides. They were so neat. When I moved to South Florida, my in person visits were sparse. But, we always had many interesting telephone conversations on his birthday (and there were many) and Christmas. We had some interesting religious conversations. I would say to Uncle Sal, Do you know that Jesus Christ died, rose from the dead and paid in full for the sins of those who put their trust in Him alone? And, that He alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that it is only through Him that one can be granted the gift of eternal life and not by any of their works lest they should boast?. He would answer in the affirmative. I will miss talking with him. I remember the time that I had asked Uncle Sal if he would ship my fathers shotgun to Florida. He not only packaged and shipped the gun, but also faxed a detailed sketch of the gun with various views and exact dimensions. This was in typical Uncle Sal style. Another milestone event was when Uncle Sal and Anna attended my wedding on September 25, 2004. That meant so much to my wife and me. I know it was not an easy trip for them to make. But, it was just another example of their sacrificial displays of love. I will miss him dearly. And to his surviving family, The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV
