Condolences

Condolence From: Henry Otten MLHS '65
Condolence: My condolences to the Steinberg family. For four years I sat and listened to his presentation of history to the class. He was a very gifted and knowledgeable teacher and basketball coach who will be missed.

Condolence: My intense interest in history was fostered by Dr. Steinberg when I was a student in the first class at Martin Luther High School in 1960. I looked forward to his knowledgeable and interesting lectures eagerly each day. I learned more about history from him in high school than most of the people I knew in college, and developed a life-long interest. I will never forget important people, dates, or events because of his influence, and appreciated his encouraging style of teaching. I became a teacher myself, partly because of the inspiration he provided. He taught me to write a research paper in such a way that I was more than well-prepared for college, and even graduate school. I was often scared that I might not live up to his expectations, but was delighted with his ability to infuse humor into the lessons. In my career as a teacher, I tried to emulate his example. He will be sorely missed in the classroom, and I am deeply saddened at his loss.

Condolence: When I was a kid I fondly remember visiting my father’s office after school. One of these memories is sitting in the adjacent office of Dr. Steinberg‘s while my father was meeting with a student or finishing a class. He was always kind, patient, and helpful. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and wish the extended Steinberg family all the best in these difficult times.

Condolence: Condolences to the Steinberg family, and everyone who knew and loved him. I never had him as an instructor, but remember seeing him quite often around the Concordia campus while a student there.

Condolence: Dear Virginia and Paul, We grieve with you on the loss of your Dad but rejoice with you that he has gone Home at last. Your father was a colleague and close friend since 1949 when he joined the faculty of Saint Matthew in upper Manhattan. With us he helped to establish Our Savior High School in the Bronx and Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, Queens. He was highly respected by faculty and students as a dedicated Christian teacher. He was always ready to go the extra mile to accomplish what needed to be done. May our gracious Lord give you the strength you need during this difficult time and comfort you with the certainty of the promised resurrection. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:25

Condolence: Dr. Steinberg was literally responsible for much of my college academic career as well as my graduate school experience and career teaching history. He was a wonderful, talented professor who challenged his students and drove them (sometimes kicking and screaming) to success. I can only imagine what a blessing he was to the ministry after his career at Concordia, Bronxville. May his family know how many lives he touched as a Minister of the Word throughout his career.

Condolence: Virginia (Buffy) and Paul,
My sincere sympathy to you at this time of loss. I remember your father as a fine teacher and good friend, fondly recalling the many conversations we had while communting together from Queens Village to Martin Luther High School.

May the sure promise of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ sustain and comfort you now and throughout you lives.
