Sr. Maryellen Smith, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2018 at the age of 85 at the Wartburg Home in Mt. Vernon. She was born on November 11, 1932 to the late William Earl and Mary Irwin Smith. Sr. Maryellen served Lord in the order of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities. During her time of service she taught at St. Clare Academy from 1954-55 and then again from 1960-64, St. Catherine's in Pelham from 1955-58, Holy Name of Jesus in New Rochelle from 1958-60, St. Eugene's, Yonkers - 1960, Mission of the Immaculate Virgin, Staten Island 1964-77, Educator, Child Care Supervisor and Religious Education, St. Ann's, Ossining, NY - Teacher, 1977-81, Still Point House of Prayer, 1981-84, Formation Director, Sisters of St. Francis, Hastings on Hudson, 1984-87, Pastoral Care Staff, St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains, 1987-91, and St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie from 1991 until her retirement to the Sisters Mother House in Hastings in 2004. Sister Maryellen also served on the board of Directors of St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY from 1998-2004. She is survived by her sister Patricia Finley. A memorial mass will be celebrated on October 29, 2018 at 11 AM at the Chapel of the Wartburg Home in Mt. Vernon. To leave an online condolence please visit www.westchesterfuneralhome.com.
