Obituary for John Dennis Halen

John Dennis Halen
John Dennis Halen was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 18 1947 to John Halen and Katherine Beale. After graduating from NYC’s High School of Aviation John was drafted into the US Army Helicopter Division where he was stationed at Ben Hoa. John was the crew chief on a helicopter and flew every day in addition to maintaining his helicopter. During his over 1 year tour John received several Air Medals and Commendations for his valor and bravery. John was part of the Tet Offensive as one of the helicopters assisting in that mission. It has been said that the helicopter units are the unsung heroes of the Tet Offensive.
It was after Vietnam that John found his love of skiing, tennis, travel, dancing. His love of tennis led him to meet his wife Lissa. John moved to Westchester in the mid 90s and met Lissa at Lake Isle. For over 20 years they played tennis together, traveled together and just enjoyed a life surrounded by love, family and friendship. He was known as ‘Styling’, ‘Smiling’ John and would do anything for anyone and never ask for anything in return.
John is survived by his wife Elizabeth ‘Lissa’ Halen, his stepson Jarad Krywicki and his step-grandchildren Finn and Connor Krywicki. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Caputo and sisters-in-law Karen Caputo and Jill Hickey, niece and nephew Kara Codio and Matthew McGoldrick, children of his late sister-in-law Donna McGoldrick.
