Condolences & Tributes

Isabella grew up in poverty in the Bronx. Despite her humble beginnings, she possessed a kind heart and a remarkable talent for tennis. From 1949 to 1961, she participated in 101 matches worldwide, including prestigious events like Wimbledon and the French Open in 1958. Additionally, she competed in six US Opens between 1953 and 1959. Notably, she faced tough competition from her friend and fellow New Yorker, Althea Gibson. Isabella's expertise on clay courts showcased her agility and athleticism. She was not only a gifted athlete but also a dedicated teacher.
