Gerald "Coach D" De Santis, 69, of Eastchester, passed away on October 21, 2012. He was born on July 31, 1943 to Gennaro and Phylis (Berardi) De Santis in the Bronx. Gerry graduated from Eastchester High School, Iona College and Fordham University for his Master's degree. Gerry served in the Army with the 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam where he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Gerry worked as a teacher for Tuckahoe High School from 1972-1999 where he touched many lives and hearts. He also coached football and baseball at Tuckahoe High School for many years, and was very involved in the Eastchester Little League. Gerry is survived by his nephews James (Linda), Brian (Trish) and Edward (Susan) Adams, his late sister Marian (De Santis) Adams, and by his great-nieces and nephews Jessica, Nicole, Justin, Gabrielle and Sofia Adams. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2012 6-9pm and Wednesday, October 24, 2012 2-4 and 6-9pm at THE WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 25 at 10:30 am at the Assumption Church, Tuckahoe. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the Tuckahoe High School, 65 Siwanoy Blvd., Eastchester, NY 10709 for a scholarship to be set up in memory of Gerry "Coach D" De Santis.
