Obituary

Obituary for Edythe Provenzano

Edythe (Eda) Volpe Provenzano was called home to our Lord on August 31, 2020. She was the soulmate of her husband of nearly 65 years, high school sweetheart, Anthony (Sonny) Provenzano who passed in October 2019. The devoted daughter of the predeceased Joseph and Josephine Volpe. Beloved mother of Salvatore (Elaine) of Tuckahoe, NY; Anthony (Diane) of Plymouth, MA; Joseph (Ann) of Patterson, NY; and Fr. Thomas (SDB) of Maryland. Dear sister to predeceased Camille Demeo, Anne Verderame, Grace Salvatore, Charles Volpe, Jeanne Serini, Anthony Volpe, and Sr. Eleanor Volpe (OCSO). Dear sister-in-law to predeceased Angela Quadrozzi. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: John (Jenny), Marie Louise Faghan (Brian), Sarah, Catherine, Elizabeth Farrell (Brian), Marie Rose, Laura Pineau (Michael), Erin, great-granddaughters, Lilah Provenzano, Charlotte Eda Farrell, Evelyn Farrell and great-grandson Roman Sonny Provenzano. Edythe was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. She worked side by side with her beloved Sonny for many years at The Farm green grocer/produce store at 6 Park Place in Bronxville NY. Edythe was born April 19, 1931 at home in Tuckahoe, NY in a house across the street from the Assumption Church. She met the love of her life, Sonny, in the halls of Tuckahoe High School. They had been inseparable for over 70 years until his passing. During her teenage years, Edythe worked as an usherette at the Scarsdale Theater, and was a cheerleader at THS, rooting for Sonny as he competed on the football field. After graduating THS in 1950, she began working full time at as an assistant for Edward Gurney MD and Bernon Quintin DDS in their shared offices in Crestwood, NY. She and Sonny were married December 5, 1954 at the Assumption Church in Tuckahoe, raising their four boys in Tuckahoe, Eastchester, and Bronxville for the following 30 years. Upon closing The Farm in 1993, Sonny and Edythe retired to Plymouth, MA. While in Plymouth, Edythe became an active volunteer with Catholic Charities, and was a daily communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Saint Peter’s Roman Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her giving, unselfish devotion to family and friends, particularly during the past ten years while Sonny was in declining health. She will be greatly missed, loved, and remembered by all fortunate enough to have shared time watching one of her movie classics, or rooting for the Yankees during a televised game. Her devotion to our Lord and to our Blessed Mother throughout her entire life spiritually carried many of us in times of trouble. May she experience comfort, joy, and peace beyond understanding, in reuniting with Sonny; and joining her Savior, the Saints and passed family and friends in Paradise. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday September 4, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Our lady of the Assumption Church, Tuckahoe. Interment to follow in Holy Mount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salesian High School, New Rochelle NY or to St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Plymouth, MA.
