Obituary for Daniel Kelly

Dan Kelly, President of Kelly's Furniture dies at 82.
Dan Kelly died October 14, 2010 after a short illness. Mr. Kelly was one of the 7 children born to Patrick and Mary Furey Kelly. While he was born in Brooklyn NY, He was raised in Frosses, County Donegal in Ireland and graduated from the Christian Brothers Academy there. Mr. Kelly served in the United States Army of occupation of Germany following World War II. In He spent most of his remaining life living in Westchester.
1959 Mr. Kelly and his brothers formed Kelly's Furniture; which became one of the leading furniture retailers in the Metro NY and Westchester area while under the hard work and leadership of Dan and his brother Clyde.
Dan Kelly received several Papal Knighthoods from His Holiness Pope John Paul II. Among them were Knight Commander of Malta, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher, The Order of Saint Sylvester as well as the Royal Savoy Orders of Maurice and Lazurus. While Mr. Kelly enjoyed great business success, he could frequently be found on Thanksgiving or Christmas working in the soup kitchen of Catholic Charities. Mr. Kelly was the Past President of the Donegal Association of NY and an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. For many years, Dan Kelly was active in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade here in NYC.
Among many other members of his family, Mr. Kelly is survived by his brother and business partner Clyde Kelly, his sister in law Mira Kelly, his three nieces whom he adored and treated as if they were his children, Stephanie, Desiree, and Athena , as well as 4 great nieces whom he absolutely cherished, Reilly, Phoebe and Leila, and Alexa.
The family will be receiving at visitation at Westchester Funeral Home 190 Main Street in Eastchester, NY on Monday, October 18th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady's Chapel in St Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Avenue in NYC., Tuesday, October 19th, 10 AM
