Papa Charlie

Papa Charlie was a gentle and thoughtful person with a wonderful sense of humor. How well I remember our preparations for Charlie and Leslie's wedding!  He  and Kathy invited us to dinner and showed us a photo of Charlie in his younger, wilder days, sporting long hair and playing in a band. He chuckled as he described his son's remarkable transformation into a very focused and determined husband. He told us how very proud and happy he felt about them and encouraged them in all their plans.

When Samantha was born, we met Kathy and Charlie in the hospital. Charlie was grinning from ear to ear when he saw Charlie holding his newest grandchild. Years later, Charlie would most generously share his home with Leslie, Charlie and Sam.  There they would live together and create strong bonds and enjoy magic moments to treasure forever.

I will especially cherish the memory of Papa Charlie helping Leslie and Charlie in the kitchen as they prepared their annual Christmas Day brunches. He was always so happy to see family and friends and to lend his cooking expertise.  He shared my love of reading, and we often spoke about our latest favorite titles and authors. Like many of the characters in the books he read, Charlie faced challenges with a brave spirit and was so very understanding of those who sought his help.

May his loving and courageous spirit remain with us as we continue our life journey. ❤️
