I remember

We are so saddened by Uncle Al's passing. Our prays go out to you, Aunt Ann, Linda, Gail, Tommy, Billy and all the Children and Grandchildren. I obviously knew Uncle Al my whole life, he was my God Father. Although I was only 4, I have a memory when Aunt Ann and Uncle Al were married, in St. Raymond's Church, in the Bronx. That was 67 years ago. It is very sad that he is gone, but Wow, what a great life ! We know that he is in Heaven, because he was a good man. I remember, while growing up, the good times we had together, the Holiday's we spent together, the trips to Glen Island, with my Father's old DeSoto Taxi Cab, painted black, from a can of paint. Uncle Al was the Cook at Glen Island and we had many a good and tasty meal and he would always bring that great crumb cake. I remember that he loved Frank Sinatra and as a Teenager...yuck..but now I love to listen to him and think of my Uncle all the time. I remember seeing the Frito Lay truck, hoping it was Uncle Al because I would get a free bag of chips. Then there was the Perogie eating contests at Grand Ma's house. My cousin Bobby, Uncle Al and me...it was close every time. I asked Uncle Al about the War. He was in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Freestone, a Haskel Class Attack Troop Transport. He down played his role in the War, but he was in the Pacific, and I know off the coast Okinawa and he was in Harm's Way. He was a Hero and will be greatly missed. God bless ! Until we meet again !
