Sr. Mary James Coogan, 85, of Mount Vernon died on May 12, 2018. Beloved daughter of the late Edward J. and Catherine Foley Coogan. Dear sister of the late Edward J. Coogan and Richard A. Coogan.
Sr. Mary entered Sisters of St. Francis, Hastings-on-Hudson, January 11, 1953. Her reception day was July 14, 1953, her first profession July 14, 1955 and her final vows July 14, 1958. She was at St. Clare Academy, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1955-56, a teacher at St. Aloysius School, Mt. Loretto, Staten Island, 1956-65, a pre-school teacher at Nazareth Day Nursery, NYC 1965-78, a teacher's aide 1978-85, at the Children's Rehab center at St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains, 1985-94, a receptionist for the Social Services Department at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1991-2014, medical records and employee health departments.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 2-5pm. Mass, Wednesday May 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Catherine's Church, Pelham. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
