Understanding, kind, respectful

Coach helped me through some bad times in junior and senior high. I was not athletic and hated gym, especially the snap-front gym suits. He arranged for me to take tennis and dance classes to avoid embarrassment as I was heavy and clumsy, and he treated me with respect. I'll never forget this.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Coach in spring 2003, when he was celebrating his 39th anniversary at the school.

My younger brother Spence also admired Coach and accompanied the baseball team to Puerto Rico as the team photographer.

Peace and condolences to his family.
