My Coach, My Hero!

If it weren't for you I would not have gone to college.  I was one of probably many students who became distracted with the day-to-day fun of teen years to see with clarity the possibility of a future college degree and subsequent unimaginable nursing and health care management career.  You were able to see the subtleties of my insecurities beyond the camouflage of my teenage silliness.

You offered to take me and another student to see a nearby college campus and then encuraged us both to apply.  We said we had.  After 3 months of avoidng your question of "did you hear back yet" I finally confessed that I had not submitted my application.  After a 3 hour "Coach Pep Talk" you asked me if I still had the application which I reflexively handed to you.  That was the last time I saw that application.

Three days before graduation, I receve an envelope from that univesity welcoming me as a new student.  From that point on my life took me on a most wonderful adventure which continues to this day.  Thank you for setting me on the right course and giving me the encouragement and courage to always reach for excellence.  You will be remembered with great joy and gratitude.  Peace and Love, Deb Schmidt, Eastchester Class of '72
