Obituary for Alfonse F. Tarcinale

Alfonse F.  Tarcinale
Alfonse “Al” Tarcinale of Eastchester, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday February 9, 2017 at the young age of 105. Al was born May 20, 1911 in Yonkers, NY, the son of Guiseppe and Giovanni Tarcinale.

Al served in the U.S. Army during World War II and remained active in the VFW. He was an accomplished musician, playing the violin and bass for the Westchester Symphony Orchestra.

Al is best remembered for giving freely of his time to others, most notably through his lasting contributions to young lives in the Eastchester community through his dedication to Little League. Al was an active force in establishing Eastchester’s Little League and served in various capacities, including umpire, coach and Vice President of both the American and National League. His Little League career peaked at age 99 when he threw out the first pitch to begin the 2010 Little League World Series championship game, honoring him for his more than 55 years of service.

Al was preceded in death by Erna, his wife of 74 years, his brothers Dante and Herb and his sister Edith. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Helen Pagnillo and Flo Tarcinale as well as over sixty nieces and nephews spanning four generations.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday February 15, 2017 from 4PM to 7PM with a memorial service at 4PM at the Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, NY 10709.

The family suggests memorials be made to Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care, 670 White Plains Road, Suite 213, Scarsdale, NY 10583; Little League at www.littleleague.org or to a charity of choice.
