Sister Marie Patrice Murphy, 95, died on November 29, 2016. Sister taught at the following elementary schools in Westchester county as well as two high schools - St. Catherine’s, Pelham, Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, St. Joseph’s, New Rochelle, Our Lady Of Perpetual Help, Pelham Manor, St. Eugene’s, Yonkers, as well as St. Patrick’s, Tampa, Fl., St. Clare Academy, Hastings and Resurrection High School in Rye. Sister was the director of the Franciscan Retreat Center in Hastings on Hudson for many years, Spiritual Associate of the Immaculate Queen Secular Franciscan Fraternity in Yonkers and Chaplain Emeritus of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians - Our Lady of Knock Division - 1, Pinellas County, Florida.
Sister Marie Patrice is survived by her sister, Mary Gavin of South Venice, FL. and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jeremiah and Catherine McCarthy Murphy, her sister, Sister Mary Francis, OSF and her brothers Patrick J. and Timothy J. Murphy.
Sister entered the Sisters of St. Francis on January 11, 1942 at New Hamburg, NY, making first vows on July 14, 1944 and final profession on July 14, 1947 at the Motherhouse in Hastings on Hudson. Sister Marie Patrice has resided at the Meadowview building on the Wartburg campus since December, 2011, where she continued to minister through prayer and her bright Irish smile.
Visitation at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Sunday, December 4, 2016, 2-4 and 6-8pm. Mass, Monday December 5, 2016 at 10:30 am at The Wartburg Chapel, Mount Vernon.
