Joseph Provenzano, 62, of Patterson, NY (formerly of Tuckahoe and Yonkers, NY) unexpectedly passed away on December 23, 2023 while vacationing at The Villages, FL. He was blessed to be surrounded by his immediate family when he passed.

Joseph was born on September 17, 1961, in Bronxville, NY. He was the third of Anthony and Edythe (Volpe) Provenzano’s four sons and was named after his maternal Grandparents, Josephine and Joseph Volpe. He received his Sacraments of Initiation at Immaculate Conception Church. He graduated from Tuckahoe High School in 1979, and went on to attend Pace University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1983.Pace University was also where he met Ann, his future wife and love of his life. They got engaged to be married on their Graduation Day.

On February 18, 1984, Joseph married Ann M. McNally at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Clearwater FL. They were together for 44 years and would have celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary this February, 2024. After initially beginning their married life in Clearwater, FL, they returned to New York to start a family. Before their 4th Anniversary, they welcomed their first child, Marie Rose. Two years and 5 days later, they welcomed their second child, Laura Dorothy.

Joe started working early at his parents’ fruit and vegetable store, “The Farm” in Bronxville, NY. He worked at the store throughout high school and college and attributed that experience with instilling in him a work ethic and dedication to customer service that would serve him well throughout his life and career. He spent almost 40 years working in the Insurance Industry. He was currently employed at Rand Insurance and had been there for the past 19 years.

Joe was an avid sports fan. He loved the NY Yankees, the NY Giants and the NY Rangers. He and Ann enjoyed going to sporting events and cheering for his teams. He would even defer, at times, and root for Ann’s favorites the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NY Mets (unless they were playing the Yankees!). Joe loved history. He was a voracious nonfiction reader and had an extensive library of history books. He could remember historical dates and facts at the drop of a hat. Joe was known for his kind, funny, caring and approachable nature. He had a warm and social personality that endeared him to everyone he met.

Joe was a faithful Catholic all his life and found solace in his religious community. His faith was an integral part of his life, providing him with guidance and strength until the very end. Joe bravely fought Renal Cancer for 7 ½ years. The cancer was found ‘accidentally’ after a bout with the flu (characteristic of this type of cancer). Renal Cancer is not only an unforgiving and relentless cancer but difficult to treat as it is resistant to the standard treatment protocols of Chemo and Radiation. A tough fight but an even tougher man. He spent 3 years on a Clinical Trial and was the last patient in the country to remain on that trial as it was highly effective for him. Unfortunately, the trial was terminated as it was determined the drug manufacturer would not be moving forward for FDA approval. The next 4 ½ years were a blur of treatments, various medication combinations and hopes for not a cure but a quality of life. Joe valiantly fought without complaint. Many people (neighbors, distant friends, business associates) did not know he was sick as it was never something he would bring up in conversation. Joe had the constant support of Ann and his entire family during his battle.

Joe was a true family man. He cared about his family above all. Joseph is survived by his wife Ann, daughters - Marie (Nazar) and Laura (Michael), and grandson, Carter. He is also survived by brothers Salvatore (Elaine), and Anthony Jr. (Diane). In addition, he is survived by his nephew John (Jenny), his nieces Marie Louise (Brian), Sarah (Ray), Catherine, Elizabeth (Brian), Erin (Praveen), a large extended family, and so many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Edythe, father Anthony Sr., and brother, Fr. Thomas SDB.

Joseph was laid to rest on the rainy morning of December 28th at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, FL with his immediate family in attendance and presided over by Father Jay Horan, SBD of the Salesian Order of which his dear brother Tom was a member. As his family left the cemetery, the Chapel bells rang, the rain stopped, the clouds began to part and the sun appeared. Joseph was finally at peace.
