Gloria Pica passed away on December 11, 2023, at 92 years old. She was
predeceased by her husband, M. Rudolph Pica, by 57 years, during which time she
completed the raising of their 5 children, Vincent, Lucia, Gregory, Claudia (RIP)
and Jeffrey. As they came of age, they in turn married JoMarie DiGirolamo, Joseph
DeGiuseppe, Melissa Sherman and Robert Blume.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on August 16, 1931, in her mother’s bed and was
instantly part of an extensive Italian American family that produced doctors,
nurses, business executives and entrepreneurs, amongst many roles. Her children
gave her 6 grandchildren – Matthew, Natalie, Jacqueline, Rudi, Mariel and Ariel –
who in turn gave her 9 great grandchildren – Sophia, Russell, Adeline, Gigi,
Cooper, William, Amelia, Lily and Rooster. She showered them all with love and
they returned it. She is also survived by her sister, Maria Caracciolo, sister-in-law
Mildred DiSpigno and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews
– even 2 great grandnieces.
Gloria’s friends spanned the world, from Asia to the US to Europe, for she made
friends easily and for life. Her advice, love and guidance were always sought after,
from captains of industry to the youngest child. And she gave eagerly, fully and
without reserve.
The last lifelong friend she made was Karvin Howell, who was her caregiver in her
final years.
Once you were touched by Gloria, you were never the same and always better.
