Obituary for Winifred B. Heinzinger

Winifred B. Hunter Heinzinger, "Wini" 98, a lifelong resident of Eastchester, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on May 5, 2023.

She was born to Patrick and Mary Short (nee Murphy) at their family home on Orchard Street in Eastchester, N.Y. on November 2, 1924. Wini attended Immaculate Conception and Eastchester High Schools where she met the love of her life, Charles "Don" Hunter. They married on Nov. 27, 1948. They raised their family together until his passing in 1977. In 1979 she reconnected with an old high school friend, Stephen Heinzinger, they married shortly thereafter. Wini was a dedicated Crossing Guard and Kindergarten Aide for the Eastchester School District for many years, retiring in 2000.

Wini is survived by her children Lois Liberati (Danny), Pamela Hunter, Virginia Coupe, Patrick, and Charles Jr. (Bernadette). Grandchildren, Michael Liberati, Peter (Jenna) Liberati, Allison Baez (Justin), Amy Coupe (Johan Silva), Adam (Lauren) Coupe, Charles III (Melissa), Melanie Fucci (Christopher) and Holly Hunter (Jonathan Grainger). Great grandchildren Taylor, Ellianna and Justin Baez, Jacob and Brielle Liberati, Henry Coupe and Francesca Fucci. Wini was predeceased by her siblings Alice and husband Joseph Rooney, and William Short. In addition, she is survived by Therese (Heinzinger) and Tony Allison, Noreen Reid, and many beloved extended family.

Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends especially the many spontaneous get together's at the Hunter household on Lawrence Avenue. Wini was an avid Yankees fan and a voracious reader, often visiting her "home away from home" The Tuckahoe Public Library. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to the Tuckahoe Public Library 71 Columbus Avenue Tuckahoe, NY 10707.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 11 2023, from 4 - 8 pm at THE WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, 2023, 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Interment to follow at the Holy Mount Cemetery.
