Obituary for Salvatore Tesoro

Salvatore Tesoro, longtime resident of Mt. Vernon, Eastchester and Port Chester, NY, died on April 12th, 2022 at the age of 91 in Rye Brook, NY. Sal was born in New York City on January 7, 1931 to Maria Concietta Panettieri Tesoro and Gaetano (Tom)Tesoro. He was raised in Mt. Vernon, NY, graduating A.B. Davis High School in 1949. He earned his undergraduate business degree from Fordham University and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving at the billeting branch at Fort Dix, NJ during the Korean War. Following his service, Sal married Constance Murphy at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Vernon in 1955. He began working for IBM in 1960 and received his MBA from New York University soon thereafter. One of Sal's critical roles during his 30-year tenure at IBM was supervising the installation of their Common Accounts Payable System (CAPS) all throughout the country. Following his retirement in 1989, Sal attended culinary school and worked as a sous-chef for several restaurants in Westchester. He also began teaching computer technology to senior citizens at the Senior Center in Greenwich, CT as a volunteer-- a role he devoted himself to well into his 80's. Sal's Catholic faith was paramount to him throughout his life and he served as a loyal parishioner and volunteer at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe for decades, both as a lector and chorister. He was an ardent fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and later, the NY Mets. He coached baseball in Eastchester and was an active member of the Red Devils baseball team in Mt. Vernon. Sal led an active lifestyle all throughout his life and particularly loved spending time at the beach and playing golf-- especially with his three sons. He was chairman of the Cub Scouts, a Master level bridge player, and a participant in the IC Players and Eastchester Town Hall Players musical theater productions alongside his daughter. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to many places, including the Aeolian islands in Italy, where his parents were born. Most of all, Sal was known for his passionate dedication to his family, his warm, generous spirit, and an abiding
presence with those he cared for. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 66 years, Constance Murphy Tesoro; four children— Thomas (Rosemary Maher), Christina (Robert Leinbach), David (former spouse Dolores Schmitt), and Christopher (Tina Pimm); nine granddaughters-- Anna, Barbara, Maria, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Julia, Michele, Claudia and Isabella; eight great grandchildren; and cousins Gloria Cincotta, Josephine P. Cardillo, Joyce Menillo and Anthony Cincotta. The family wishes to thank King Street Rehab in Rye Brook for their compassionate care of Sal in recent months. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19th from 4-8 pm at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 20th at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Knights of Columbus Charities Ukraine Solidarity Fund (https://www.kofc.org/secure/en/donate/index.html).
