As our family members know, my mother and I were very close. She died when I was 34 and Erik was 5 years old. I thought that this was the worst possible thing! I had relied on her love and wisdom throughout Erik’s tough birth and youth and didn’t think I’d be able to make good choices without her beautiful counsel. However, I immediately found in my beloved mother-in-law, Rosalie, the perfect second Mom. Ro’s loving grace and down to earth, always charitable advice became a huge and wonderful part of my life. I used to say that she was all heart, her own huge, giving one and all those other hearts she eased. She always had the most pragmatic, practical approach and these cherished words were always delivered with love and terrific humor. I was privileged and honored to have had the huge and life-changing benefit of being included in Ro’s family for 36 years, and to benefit from all she had to give. She gave and gave and gave every day of her life. And her loving care of all of us, her huge smiles of welcome, her life lessons, her humorous “Yogi Berra” sayings, her love, so much a part of our lives, will be with us all until we have breathed our last.

John, Ray, Lucille, Peter, Laura, Jane, and all the Betti Families,

Aunt Rosalie was one of a kind. She was like a second mom to me. Circumstances were such that I could not make the trip to New York to be a part of the celebration of her life. Over the recent years when I would visit Dad and Gioia, a trip to see Rosalie was always a highlight. She would keep me up to date about what was happening with you all and I would also get a review of early family history. As Ray mentioned, her kitchen was always a welcoming event. She was often concerned about my well being, but humorous and appreciative with her counsel. I trust her joy will remain in your hearts and that His Blessings will be with you always.
