Obituary for Rolando Gomez

Rolando Gomez, ne' Rolando Gomez Rojas, died peacefully on June 4, 2021 in New Rochelle, New York. He was born on March 10, 1923 in Palma Soriano, Oriente, Cuba. He was an Accountant by training and education. He was known to all his old friends as Nene and lived a long and peaceful life. An accountant and Administrator, Rolando ran sugar mills in Cuba and emigrated to the United States in 1961 to escape the tyranny, oppression, and freedom-less regime of the Castro brothers. His main reason for leaving the communist country was to provide freedom and hope to his family, especially to his two sons. He was known for his stellar work ethics, his unquestionable integrity and his love for his new country, USA. Upon arriving in New York City via Spain, his first job was washing dishes for Schrafft's Restaurant in midtown NYC. He eventually obtained a position as accountant and retired as Controller of Mangel Stores, headquartered in NY. He fell in love with the "love of his life," Josefa, at an early age and eventually married her in 1946. They were married for 47 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Marina Gomez Rojas and Pedro Gomez, and his wife, Josefa Gomez Corzo who passed away on March 10, 1993. He is survived his two sons Pedro (Sheila) Gomez and Roland (Sara) Gomez, his granddaughter Amanda (Agustin Palma) Gomez, and his two great-grand daughters, Penelope and Emma.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 190 Main St. Eastchester, NY, Tuesday June 8th 8:30am-10am. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday June 8th at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the parish of Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady Church, 53 Winter Hill Road, Tuckahoe, NY 10707.
