Obituary for Rocco V. Salerno, Jr.

Salerno, Jr., Rocco V. Our hearts are broken. With great sadness, I mourn the loss of my beloved husband, my best friend Rock, who passed away on January 30, 2021, at age 63 after a heroic struggle. Born and raised in Eastchester, New York, Rocco was a graduate of Eastchester High School (High Honors), Iona College (BA, Cum Laude and Dean’s Honor list from 1975-1979) and Pace University Law School (JD with Honors, 1984). Rocco was admitted in the New York and New Jersey State Bar Associations. Rocco practiced law for 36 years with a start at the Law Office of Anthony J. Colavita as a sole practitioner in Family Law, Real Estate and Business Law. He then moved his practice to Harrison, New York and he was General Counsel to Class Action Refund. Rocco also served many years as legal counsel to a New York State Senator. Beloved by his many friends, colleagues and family, he had a smile that lit up every room he entered, and a presence which one could not miss.

Rocco was a caring devoted husband to Deborah PB Salerno, Scarsdale, New York. He is predeceased by his loving parents Kathryn E. and Rocco V. Salerno and his sisters Karin Salerno-Ranellone and Kathy Salerno-Mazzari. Rocco will be greatly missed by his younger sister Kristine (William “Bill”) Verno, niece Kathryn, nephews Bill (Rosie) and Vincent Verno, nieces and nephew Amanda and Jennifer Ranellone and Peter (Jeanne) Mazzari and Katie (Andy) Huber. There will also be an empty place in the hearts of Mother in Law Carmella Boggi, sister in law Kathy Marble (Doug) Brown, niece Pamela Marble (James) Andrews, brother in law Patrick L. (Laura) Boggi, nieces Krista (Thallys) Goncalves, Nicole and nephew Patrick.

Rocco leaves behind countless dear friends and partners. He had an incredible sense of humor, loving and caring to those around him. Rocco enjoyed coming home at night to sit by his Koi pond and listen to his favorite music. He was the “Rock” of our family. His memory will live on in our hearts. His most famous quote to his wife Deborah was “You and Me against the World”.

In lieu of flowers a contribution in Rocco’s memory may be made to the BeTheMatchFoundation.org. (the Bone Marrow registry), MDS-Foundation.org, (Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation), The American Cancer Society.

A Celebration of his Life will be arranged for a future date.
