Obituary for Rita M. Williams

Rita Williams, 94 of Eastchester, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 5, 2019. She was born on May 20, 1924 to Joseph and Anna Vaccaro of New Rochelle, NY.
Rita married Robert A. Williams on June 14, 1947 who predeceased her in 1978. She is survived by her children, Peter (Susan), Larry (Lynn), Kathleen (Michael), Kenneth (Rita), Patricia; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tony), Jenna (Tom), Michelle, Rebecca (Sam), Michael (Alanna) Tory, Kristin and great grandchildren, Zavien, Kasper, Clover and Dylan.
Her rich and rewarding teaching career spanned more than three decades primarily at Colonial Elementary School in Pelham NY. She valued education and independence. She loved reading, traveling, word games, and summers at her beloved Montauk home with family and friends.
Rita lived a well-rounded and active life. Her calendar was full of plans, activities and places to go. She kept busy with Mahjongg, scrabble, book clubs, crossword puzzles and going to the theater. She was typically out of the house six days a week up to the last two weeks of her life. and was never far from a book.
Faith and family were very important elements of Rita’s life and she was an active parishioner of The Parish of Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady in Tuckahoe, NY.
Rita was also an active member of the Pelham Manor Club, and frequently visited the Bronxville Field Club, the Eastchester Senior Center, and the Eastchester Library.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER, NY on Friday, January 11, 2019, 4-8 pm. A Mass will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 9:30am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe, NY. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, New Rochelle NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Eastchester Public Library, 11 Oakridge Place, Eastchester, NY 10709
