Obituary for Michael Kerry Marron

Michael Kerry Patrick Marron, born on September 29, 1959, to parents James and Marita Marron, passed away quietly in his home on January 2, 2023. He was sixty-three years old.

Born and raised in the Bronx for most of his childhood, Michael spent many of his younger years with his second family, the Houles, learning to fish and swim while spending time with them at The Great Barrington Lake in Massachusetts. There he developed a great love and appreciation of nature that continued into adulthood, when he often passed his time fishing and hunting. In addition to being raised by his father and with his brothers, Michael’s childhood was shaped through significant influences including those of his stepmother, Marie Collello, and his stepsiblings, Fran and Anthony Collello. Most important of all was the friendship Michael shared with his predeceased lifelong best friend, Scotty Parks, whom his children called “Uncle Scott.” Michael and Scotty were kindred spirits and brothers through thick and thin.

Michael worked for many years as a telephone repairman maintaining operations systems for a number of companies, including the FDNY. As a telephone repairman, he honed the notable handiness skills that had come naturally to him as a child, and he always utilized them to assist friends and neighbors in need, as he loved to fix things and help people. Indeed, Michael had a penchant for helping complete strangers, whether it was towing a farmer’s tractor stuck in a ditch outside of Meredith, aiding a stranger in a broken-down car near Margaretville, or even tackling a would-be robber in Bensonhurst. Michael was also known for his quick-witted (albeit sometimes biting and sarcastic) sense of humor and his eternal devotion to the New York Rangers. He had a steadfast determination and frequently told his kids (sometimes to their consternation) to always practice and never give up.

Michael is survived by these four beloved children: Michael Scott Marron of Brooklyn, Joseph Patrick Marron of Staten Island, Peter Vincent Marron of Staten Island, and Thomas Ryan Marron of Pennsylvania, along with his older brother, Robert Marron of Montgomery, NY, and his nieces and nephew, Alison Wohlrab of Newburgh, NY, Kelly Morel of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Marc Marron of Middletown, NY, to whom he was “Uncle Kerry.” Michael is also predeceased by both his maternal and paternal grandparents, his mother and father, and his older brother, James Kevin Marron.
