Condolences & Tributes

Darling Sandy,
You know without my saying it how much Red and I love you and Michael. We share a special history, we four, and a deep connection few can fathom. The joy on his face when you walked into a room was beautiful to behold. I hold it in my heart.

One day you will smile again, not only through the pain, but at the sheer joy of remembering what was. That will never go away. Not ever.

Take this understanding with you wherever you go: No man was more tenderly cared for, more treasured, more loved. Sometimes what is left when someone is gone is the knowledge that no effort was spared in smoothing the path for them to go, full of wonder, on to the next experience. You did that for him.

Give my love to your beautiful family. They know how lucky they were to have been loved by him. And I know how lucky I have been to be a part of such a beautiful love story.

Love,
Millee

Being around Michael, you couldn’t help but smile at his boundless generosity and love; His love for Sandy, his love for family, his love for friends, his love for music, his love for food, his love for the Yankees, and most of all, his love for life. The world was a better place having had him in it, and though we will keep him in our hearts, he will be greatly missed. Our family sends our thoughts of strength and peace to Sandy and the entire family during this difficult time.

Michael was passionate in his beliefs, he knew who he was and lived his life the way he wanted. This was balanced with respect and compassion for others. It didn’t matter where you came from. If he had a credo – it was live with integrity, compassion and grace. And love. Lots of love. At least that is the mark he left on me. And I am grateful for the example he set – one that I truly benefited from. We will miss you Michael and cherish the time we had together this go around.

Well Michael, I never thought I would be writing an obit about you. You were always indestructible so I thought you would be writing mine. We had a great run together since we first met at Coveleigh's show. I remember you and Kay Bayton doing New York New York and all the fun we had together. It was the beginning of an unforgettable friendship. We partied together, Vacationed together and dined together. Who can ever forget our trip to Italy, our drive in Rome and stay at the San Pietro Hotel in Positano and the cognac drinks at the end of the evening.Camille and I will miss you and the great times the four of us have had together but no-one can ever take away the memories.

Dear Sandy,

Of course I've been thinking about you all day today. About you and Michael. Now that the day is over I have a chance to collect my thoughts. We are all so incredibly sad about losing MIchael. Even though logically we knew this day would come based on the medical realities, there was something so magical about Michael and how much he loves you, it really seemed like maybe he would stay around forever just to keep taking care of you as he would always say.

I've never seen a love story like the one you and Michael have. I say have because that love is still here and even though Michael may not be here physically, I know he will be right next to you watching over you for the rest of your life.

My family so treasured the time we shared with you guys - our yearly "between Christmas and New Years" dinners at your house were always so special, and we loved so much hearing Michael tell all of his stories about boxing, singing, growing up, and especially hearing the two of you recount the story of how you met and fell in love. That was always our favorite story to hear.

I want to make sure you know (and I'm sure you do), that most people never get to experience the kind of relationship and love that you and Michael have, and even though he left, you were both so lucky to have found eachother and be so in love for so many years.

When the phone rang this morning and I heard your voice I instantly knew, and I knew there was nothing I could say. Just hearing your voice I wished I could do something to take away all of the sadness and grief you're feeling. Time will help you with that, and your family and friends.

We all love you so much, and we truly feel lucky to have known Michael and had the opportunity to know you as the beautiful people you both are separately, and the amazing couple you make together.

Sending you so much love. There's definitely another angel in heaven today, and lucky for you he's going to be on your shoulder.

Even though I wrote this, it captures how my parents, Jake and I all feel, and they are also sending you their love.

All my love,

Tal

We loved you dearly, Michael. You were kind, funny, intelligent, loving and supportive - forever grateful for what you had, especially your loving marriage to Sandy. We will miss seeing your face light up when the grandkids walked in and your pride & joy as we all gathered around your dining room table. You taught us to count our blessings, trust our gut and make sure to express our love out loud. We will miss you, but will always carry a part of you with us.

Rest in peace, Michael. With all our love always,

Pam, Rich, Gabriel & Maia
