Michael Blanco, 84 of Tuckahoe, New York peacefully passed on January 13, 2021. He was born to Jennie and Martino Blanco on October 24, 1936 and was predeceased by his brother Henry. He grew up in the famed Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx, which remained a cultural oasis for him throughout his life. He was a loving father and grandfather, and is survived by his son Martin, daughter-in-law Barbara, their children Kathryn and Matthew, his son Thomas, daughter-in-law Mary and her children Brendan and Sarah. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life and they so loved their “Papa Mike.” Additionally, he is survived by many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He loved them all so very much.
He enjoyed a distinguished career of more than twenty-five years at Bankers Trust. He began in New York City as a Consumer Loan Officer, then became Director of Public Relations for the Westchester County offices and eventually returned to Manhattan to the human resources position of Director of Bankers Club. The high-profile nature of this position made him widely known and admired throughout the corporation. He retired as a Vice President during the early days of the Deutsche Bank acquisition.
During his early professional years, he was sent by Bankers Trust to The Graduate School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia. Submitted in 1974 in partial fulfillment of the requirements of this program, he published "Financing New York City’s Medallion Taxicab Industry". For years it was a seminal reference work for the industry and remains in the University of Virginia Library, available for circulation nearly fifty years later.
Additionally, Michael was an accomplished calligrapher whose work was highly celebrated and sought after throughout New York City and Westchester. He mastered numerous fonts and possessed a rare expertise on the interplay between a wide variety of papers and inks. His work was nothing less than stunning. A great devotee of opera, he was also a trustee for New Rochelle Opera for many years.
Throughout his life, he strived for excellence in all that he did and dedicated his efforts to make the world around him more beautiful. He was exceedingly generous and always available to provide sage counsel, affirmation, and love to everyone in his life.
