Obituary for MaryAnn Jonaitis

MaryAnn Jonaitis of Tuckahoe, NY died on Wednesday, June 26, 2019.
MaryAnn was born to Helen and Anthony Jonaitis of Trenton, NJ on July 3, 1955. She graduated in 1973 from Pennsbury High School in Yardley, PA and in 1977 from Columbia University in New York, NY where she was the manager of the football team. MaryAnn started her career in as an OB nurse at the George Washington University Hospital and eventually committed her career to working with patients who have diabetes. MaryAnn spent most of her career as a diabetes educator at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and most recently worked as a care manager with Oscar Health Insurance. MaryAnn continued to pursue her education, earning two Masters Degrees and a Doctorate of Education from Columbia University in 2002.
When she was younger, MaryAnn was a runner and completed multiple Midnight Runs on New Year’s in Central Park. She also enjoyed swimming and cycling, and loved participating in the Musselman Triathlon in Geneva, NY as a member of Team Quigley.
MaryAnn was a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter Laura’s troop, from kindergarten through senior year of high school, as well as an active supporter or her daughter Eileen’s troop. She was a teacher at the Immaculate Conception Parish School of Religion for her son David’s class, and taught the same group of students from First Communion through Confirmation. She was an avid supporter of the Fordham Prep Crew Team and was at every dance recital, piano recital, and soccer game that her children participated. MaryAnn was a social and charismatic person who enjoyed accompanying her husband Steve to community events in Eastchester and Tuckahoe.
MaryAnn Jonaitis is survived by daughters Eileen and Laura, and son David.
She is predeceased by her husband, Stephen, her mother Helen Jonaitis, her father Anthony Jonaitis and brother Phil. She is also survived by her brothers Michael and Jeff, the entire Quigley family, and her devoted friends the Mulders, the Iorios, the McMahons and her JVC family.
Calling hours will be Sunday, June 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Westchester Funeral Home Inc., Eastchester. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 16th Street and 6th Avenue in New York City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the National Dance Institute, the Tuckahoe Public Library, Covenant House NY, and St. Francis Xavier Church.
