Sr. Mary Joseph Crowley, 93, of Mount Vernon died on November 6, 2022. Mary was born on October 9, 1929 to Thomas and Catherine Burns Crowley in Port Jervis, NY.
Sr. Mary Joseph graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. On September 8, 1949 Sister entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Hastings on Hudson.
Sister began a long ministry in nursing serving: Mt. Loretto, Staten Island as a Nurse 1955-59; St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains as an OR Supervisor 1959-62, and Assistant Administrator 1969-71; St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie - Psychiatric Unit 1962-69 and as Assistant Administrator 1971-75; NYU Hospital Chaplain 1976-79 and Clinical Coordinator Alcoholism Unit 1979-85; Unique Nursing Agency, Director of Nurses 1985-89. Her community service included: Motherhouse of Sisters of St. Francis at Hastings on Hudson and as a volunteer and a Chaplain (1990-2003) at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY.
Sister is survived by her brother James Crowley, a sister Elizabeth (Betty) Sweeney and her Sisters of St. Francis.
There will be a gathering before Mass at St. Catherine's Church, Pelham Thursday Nov 10 from 9:30-10am. Mass, Thursday November 10, 2022 at 10am at St. Catherine's Church, Pelham. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery - Kingston, NY.
