Obituary for Mark P. Peschiera

Mark Peter Peschiera passed away on May 1, 2019 at 73 years of age. A first generation Italian-American, Mark was born in New York’s “Hell’s Kitchen” to Lincoln and Caroline Peschiera in 1946. He attended Public School 17, then went to Stuyvesant High School, as did his father, his brother Alan, and several cousins. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Manhattan College with a double major in Biology and Physics. Mark was drafted for the Vietnam War but received a deferment when he was offered a job with RCA in Somerville NJ, working as a transistor engineer.
After some time there, Mark decided to reinvent himself, embarking on a career in medicine at the age of 28. He graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in Mexico. He then went on to complete his 5th Pathway and Residency Program at St. Vincent’s Hospital - New York Medical College. He spent the better part of his career at New Rochelle Hospital, specializing in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. A kindhearted soul, Mark was known for his compassionate and sometimes funny bedside manner, and was akin to the doctors of a time gone by, making house calls for his patients when need.
Mark enjoyed the outdoors, especially nature walks and observing the fall foliage. He was also a military history buff, able to recount details of various wars, especially the Civil War and World War II. Mark leaves behind his younger brother Alan. His gentle spirit and sweet smile will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5, 2019, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at THE WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019, 9:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. He will be buried in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
