Obituary for Mario Mignardi

Mario Mignardi
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mario Mignardi of Tuckahoe, New York, on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the ripe old age of 84. Mario left this earth after suffering from severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (“COPD”), while recovering from a surgery due to spinal bone cancer.
Mario was born on January 1, 1936 to his parents Gelardo Mignardi and Fiorinda Paniccia in Veroli, Italy, province of Frosinone. He was one of eight siblings born during a time of global unrest and poverty. After completing his schooling, he began his apprenticeship in the art of masonry on the cobblestone streets of Rome. Little did he know that his talent would lead him to America.
In 1951, at the age of 16, Mario married his wife, Olga in a marriage that lasted for 69 years. In 1966, Mario and his family moved to Tuckahoe where he resided for 54 years. Mario’s talented masonry skills allowed him to operate his own construction company, Olgamar Construction, for over 30 years. His works of art can still be seen throughout homes in the Tri-State area and West Point.
Mario was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give his shirt to a friend, and an excellent storyteller. Mario is survived in legacy by his loving wife, Olga Mignardi; their two children, Anthony Mignardi of Bronxville, and Patricia Papetti of Eastchester; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother and sisters; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives.
Mario is preceded in death by parents, Gelardo and Fiorinda; brothers, Loreto, Severino, Santino and Giovanni.
Family and friends may pay their respects at The Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, on Thursday, June 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of the Assumption, 100 Pleasant Ave., Tuckahoe, on Friday June 19th at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at The Gate of Heaven, 10 W Stevens Ave., Valhalla.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Lung Association, a leading advocate of COPD.
Please bear in mind social distancing regulations when visiting.
