Obituary for Marie Viscio (Pozzoli)

On January 17, 2022, at 3:12 am, the world lost a wonderful human being—Marie Helen Viscio just 5 weeks shy of her 95th birthday.
She was born in New Rochelle on February 24, 1927. She was a loving daughter to her mother, Adele Celona (deceased), a devoted wife to her husband, Albert Viscio (deceased), an incredible mother to her 3 children, Albert (Adrienne), Toni (Philip Busone) and PJ (Grace Nunez), as well as the best grandmother imaginable to her 6 grandchildren, Andrew, James (Christine), Christopher (Brittany), Max (deceased), Peter and Carolina.
From 1949 to 1986, Marie and her husband owned and operated Frank’s Pharmacy on Main Street in New Rochelle. They enjoyed working side by side and were beloved by their customers who regarded them as friends They were longtime members of the Davenport Club in New Rochelle. She rejoined the Club with Toni and PJ and their families in 1998 and enjoyed an additional 10 years of reconnecting with old friendships, making new ones, learning new card games, and most of all enjoying being with her family—especially her grandchildren-- in a fun environment where much of the summer felt like a long family vacation.
Marie continued for her entire life to be a true friend to many. She was extremely talented at the art of conversation, was one of the best listeners imaginable and just enjoyed the company of friends and family—especially at both holiday and impromptu gatherings. For many years she loved golf (had an amazing short game), reading (mostly murder mysteries) and playing bridge. She was a formidable opponent and a valued team member…especially at card games.
Marie was an avid Words with Friends player and relished the opportunity to win—primarily playing with Toni’s college friends—and most often beating them. At times, her iPad seemed like an additional appendage that provided her with games, eBooks, and reruns on YouTube. She and Toni took time every day to do the Word Jumble in the Journal News. She was fun and always game.
Marie was a model in “going with the flow.” And she was a survivor—having been an avid Mets fan since the team’s beginning, she knew the virtues of both patience and grace in defeat. We started the countdown to 2022 Spring training with 35 days. She was hopeful with the new coach and strong team this would be the Mets’ year.
Marie enjoyed her family more than anything and wanted to help anyone she could to navigate the challenges and sorrows, as well as share in the joys that life presents. She will be sorely missed.
