Obituary for Marie Grace Salimbene (Carminucci)

Today, we hear bells ringing for an Angel that has earned her wings!
Remembering our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a sister, a friend, and a real-life angel.

Marie Grace Salimbene died peacefully alongside her family on May 12, 2022, at the age of 86. On April 12, 1936, Marie was born to Armando and Theresa Carminucci in the Bronx, NY, and grew up in Eastchester, NY, with her three siblings, Joan, Bobby, and Linda.

She was a devoted wife and true partner of Dr. John Salimbene for 60 years, who predeceased her in a tragic fire in 2016. Marie heroically survived the disaster with the help of her family, neighbors, patients, and the community. We were incredibly blessed to have her in our lives for the last 5 years until God called her home forever.

Marie married the love of her life, Dr. John F. Salimbene, in 1956, and she helped build a family medical practice out of their home in Scarsdale, NY. Marie worked alongside Dr. John and made a fantastic team that lovingly served their beloved patients and the entire lower Westchester County community for decades. Most would say they didn't come to see the doctor but to see Marie ! She greeted every patient as if they were her own family.

Marie and John built a life of love and family carried on in their seven children, John (Sue Ann), Rita (Thomas), Deborah (James), Jennifer (Regina), Bernadette (David), Frances, and Michael (Janine); her grandchildren (Ann, Emily [Stephen], Jack, Melissa [Eric], Jessica, Adriana, Daniel, David, Ashley, Michael, Luke, and Hannah, and her great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Chance, Sloane, Elizabeth, Stephen, and Eddie.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called her "Mem."
Marie was a true matriarch. She had a strong and calming presence. She was a confidante who saw life in perspective and helped others to do so too. She instilled a strong sense of faith and loyalty to her family. She was fiercely independent, hilariously funny, never afraid to share her opinion, but always carried herself with grace. Her love of baseball and the New York Yankees was a huge part of her life.

She was an even bigger fan of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She delighted in all their sports, activities, and accomplishments. As a busy mother and grandmother, she always managed to find time to be with her family. In particular, she enjoyed hosting large gatherings, taking an annual trip to Myrtle Beach, SC, with their large and growing extended family, or pitching batting practice to children in the neighborhood.

Marie will be greatly missed. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she and her husband will eternally continue their love story in heaven. Arrangements are as follows: Visitation at the Westchester Funeral 190 Main St, Eastchester, NY 10707. Sunday 2PM to 8PM Monday 4-8 Tuesday Mass of Christian Burial 10 am Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
