Obituary for Marie D Rosenthal (Ignelzi)

ROSENTHAL, MARIE DEA Marie D. Rosenthal, 81, of Eastchester, died July 26, 2020. She was born August 5, 1938 in the Bronx. Early in her career, she served as an assistant to the Chief of Staff for Olin Chemical, then married her husband Leo C. Rosenthal in 1959. Their happy marriage lasted until his death in 2005. In 1975, while raising two small daughters, Marie attended Mercy College, receiving the Gold Medals in Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Elementary Education and was graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1978. She later worked as a Special Education teacher at Intermediate School 180 for thirteen years. Late in her career, she worked at the Office for the Aging at the Town of Eastchester. Her passion was learning and listening, and she was defined by her the love and joy she brought to her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Laura and William McNerney of Newtown, CT, her daughter Andi of New Rochelle, her beloved grandchildren Connor and Ryan McNerney, her brother Louis Nelson of Wilton, CT, her sister Patricia Ignelzi of New Rochelle, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo, by nine of her brothers and sisters, and her parents, Dan and Jennie Nelson. In accordance with her wishes, a private graveside service will be held in the near future along with a celebration of her life.
