Obituary for Maria Scampone (Nargi)

Maria Scampone, a long time resident of Eastchester, NY, Passed away on August 16, 2020 at the age of 81. She was born in Castelvetere Sul Calore, Italy to Luigi and Rosa Nargi and immigrated to the United States in 1951.

Maria was the beloved wife of 60 years to Louis Scampone whom she married on July 9, 1960 at St. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church on E. 213th Street in the Bronx, NY. She was a loving mother to Louis (predeceased), Dean (Angela) and Christopher (Kim). Beloved grandmother to Gabriella, Giovanna, Daniella, Isabella, Dean Jr., Christopher, Jr. and Danielle. She is predeceased by her brothers Vincent and Joseph.

Maria, along with her husband, founded Villaggio Italiano Restaurant (Villaggios) in Hartsdale, NY in 1977. Together, they operated the business for 39 years until their retirement. She was well respected by her business colleagues, employees and customers. Maria was forever 16. She had an incredible zest for life and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.

Her love and generosity will be forever remembered by her family and friends. She kept her hidden talent as a singer a secret, only exposed by a photograph of her singing at her own wedding. She loved to host Sunday dinners, spend time with her children and grandchildren and “paint the town” with her niece and best friend Camille, and her sister in law, Mary.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who took loving care of Maria at home. The family will receive friends and relatives at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester on Friday August 21st, 10am - 1pm. Entombment will be private.
