Obituary for Maria Lydia Pedrajas "Marily" Sarmiento

Maria Lydia “Marily” Sarmiento
Marily passed away on Tuesday March 17th due to complications from COVID. She recently celebrated her 54th birthday.
Marily was born in New York City on March 8, 1967 to Antonio and Evelyn Sarmiento. She grew up in Manhattan until attending high school in the Philippines at Assumption Iloilo where she made lifelong friends. She is a graduate of Rutgers University where she received her bachelor’s and master’s in Electrical Engineering. Her ambition and thirst for knowledge led her to receive a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She worked at Siemens for approximately 30 years where she is a standout and universally respected and liked.
Marily is survived by her loving mother Evelyn and late father Antonio, her brothers Tony (Dana), Joe (Jessica), Chris (Shelly), her nieces and nephews who give her much happiness (Nathan, Ryan, Marco, Milo, Daykhari, Zendaya, Axelle), the love of her life Andria, and countless family, friends and co-workers.
There isn’t a place in the world she hasn’t been. She loves traveling whether through work or pleasure to experience different cultures and places. Her favorites are the Philippines where she would tell stories about all of her family and school memories and experiences as well as Hawaii.
She is an avid golfer and knows every location by which golf course it’s closest to. The golf course is where she finds peace but also where she had so much fun throughout the years.
Above all she is a family person who always puts everyone else first and is a natural born caregiver. This includes her actual family as well as friends who were like family. Her nieces and nephews are her joy.
She is a light and positively touched every person she ever came in contact with. Her smile, her laugh and so many other things will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 21st at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church 53 Winter Hill Road, Tuckahoe, NY 10707. (Available via live stream at icaparish.org/livestream/ for those who cannot attend in person.) Prayers to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery Eastchester, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your own choice in her honor.
