Obituary for Margaret Keane

Margaret Mary Keane, “Peggy,” a long-time resident of Scarsdale, NY died peacefully on February 9, 2023. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family. She is predeceased by her four brothers, Michael, Brian, John and Matthew Keane. A fiercely devoted sister, affectionately known as “Newch,” Margaret cherished spending time with family and friends and was always a welcome addition to many a family gathering, where she shared stories about the Keane family’s Irish traditions. Born on December 13th, 1936 to William and Catherine Keane, Margaret was the beloved only sister of four brothers. She grew up at 618 Main Street in New Rochelle, NY, and developed a love for her Irish heritage, becoming the honorary Keane historian. Peggy graduated from St. Gabriel’s High School in New Rochelle, NY and then went on to earn her paralegal degree. During her professional career Margaret worked for Kirkland and Ellis law firm in Chicago and then Weil, Gotshal and Manges in New York City. Finding joy in travel, literature, collecting and knitting, Peggy relished in sharing her wisdom and craft-making gifts with her nieces and nephews. A long-time member of the Larchmont Shore Club, Peggy also loved to sit in the sun and read and visit with friends. From her vast collection of photographs, it is clear that Peggy adored and was adored by her extended family and she always took extra special care to mark holidays and birthdays. Peggy’s legacy of love for family, deep Christian faith and an independent Irish spirit is one to be admired. She will be missed. Friends may visit at the Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Tuckahoe, NY 10707 on Tuesday, February 14th between the hours of 2:00pm-6:00pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8 Carman Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583, Wednesday, February 15th at 10:00am.
