Obituary for Marc Jansen Casals Bolanos

Marc Jansen Casals Bolanos was an honest and patriotic young man who lived his life serving his country and community. He was a loving, caring, generous and thoughtful son, grandson, nephew, godson, cousin, friend and coworker. He died suddenly on March 20, 2024, while training for the US Navy, Surface Combat Systems Training Command, in Great Lakes, Illinois. In the words of his Commanding Officer and the Commander of the US Navy, “he was a fine young man who held a leadership position; was one of the top Sailors both professionally and academically at Gunner’s Mate “A” School; was a role model and was certainly well-liked by his shipmates”. He was only 29 years old when he passed on.
Marc was employed with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), Station 26, where he had worked for four years as an EMT before he went on military leave to train with the US Navy. He loved FDNY very profoundly and lived and breathed his job as an EMT. He loved helping and taking care of people. He wore his FDNY uniform proudly and dedicatedly and treasured his Badge, No. 1400.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1994, in Bronxville, NY, the only child of his father, Hipolito Bolanos and stepmother Karen Jean Bolanos, and his mother, Marilyn De La Cruz Bolanos and her fiancé Sean Farhadi. He attended Ardsley High School and Rockland Community College. He loved to travel to meet new people and cultures here in the US and abroad. And he loved sports, especially baseball, football, swimming and tennis.
He was an avid fan of the Yankees and often bought tickets to their games.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Segundino and Petra Bolanos and Salvador “Buddy” de la Cruz. He leaves behind his grieving parents, grandmother Estherina de la Cruz, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins all over the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and the Philippines, including Gerardo Bolanos and family, Paul Bolanos and family, Winniebaldo Bolanos (RIP) and family, Juliet, Manette, Lette, Rhandee, and Gilbert Bolanos; Salvador de la Cruz Jr. and family, Mimi and Gabe Cohen, and Chat and Vic Estepa. Marc was a big dog-lover; he leaves behind as well Minnie and Cooper, his four-legged siblings. He was very much loved and will be terribly missed! May he rest in eternal peace in the loving arms of His Creator!
