Sister Lucy Sabatini passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the Skilled Nursing Facility at Wartburg in Mt. Vernon. She was a Sister of St. Francis for 72 years and was an Educator in Westchester for many years. Sister taught at St. Catherine’s Pelham where she was also Principal for many years, St. Eugene’s Yonkers, Our Lady of Perpetual, Pelham Manor, Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe and was the Spanish teacher at St. Clare Academy, Hastings on Hudson. Sister Lucy was the Administrator of Nazareth Nursery in New York City and Director of the Archdiocese Good Shepard Program for Young Children. She trained as a Montessori Educator at the St. Nicholas Center in London, England. She an advocate for the Unborn as part of the Right Life Movement in New York State.
Sister Lucy was born in Vasto, Italy on June 06, 1929 to Gaetano and Grace Di Cicco Sabatini and became an American Citizen on December 26, 1951. She earned B.S. in education and M.A. in Spanish from Fordham University.
Sister Lucy entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Hastings on Hudson in January of 1948 and took final vows on July 14, 1953.
Sister is survived by her bother Nicholas Sabatini and many nieces and nephews as well as her Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities. A memorial mass will be held at a future date.
UPDATE - Memorial mass will be held November 19, 2020 at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Burial of crematins to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
