Laurie Verdisco was born October 28 1932 at Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY. Her parents, Anna and Samtine Verdisco, preceded her in death. Laurie attended Waverly Elementary School, Eastchester High School, Alfred University, and Columbia University School of Nursing. While at Columbia she received an MA in medical-surgical nursing, and upon graduation joined the faculty. Later she became Head of the Nursing Program. She received several teaching awards and the Columbia Alumni Federation’s highest honor, the Alumni Medal for service to the University. Laurie left teaching to join Dr. David Roye, Jr, in the Babies and Children's Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. She truly treasured her time with this program.
Family was very important to Laurie. Her love, kindness and generosity knew no bounds. Laurie is survived by her brother George (Anne Marie) and her sister MaryAnne (Barry). Her brother Robert (Patti) preceded her in death. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Lisa, Barbara, Aimee, Michael, Sareh, Elizabeth, and Matthew. Also surviving are her grandnieces and nephews, Alexandra, Anna, Kate, Samantha, Steven, Connor, Catherine, Elizabeth, AnnaMaria, Langston and Caroline. Laurie is also survived by her life-long best friend, Aunt Helen Pagnillo. The family would like to thank Karen Carinci and Cindee Jones and their families for their unselfish and loving care they gave Laurie. We also thank the team of caregivers who looked after her. Thank you also to her concerned and loving neighbors.
