Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Mammana
Joseph “Joe” Raymond Mammana, age 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, 2022. He was born on September 6, 1931, in Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Frank and Catherine Palmieri Mammana. Joe served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. Joe was actively involved with American Legion Post 979 in Eastchester, NY for many years, where he coordinated and ran the Red Cross blood drives for many of those years.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, shooting sports and fishing. He was also a lover of classic movies and music of yesteryear. Joe was a walking encyclopedia of movies and music knowledge and loved to engage in nostalgic conversations. He often attended shows at Birdland, Roseland and the Copa Cabana back “in the day”. Joe also loved sports, especially football, baseball, hockey and horse racing. He played semipro football and even had a tryout with the NY Giants back in 1953. Joe worked part time as a ticket taker at the original Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden, where his love of the Yankees, Giants and Rangers began. He worked full time as an New York City union carpenter and worked on many of NYC’s iconic skyscrapers. He spent the last ten years of his professional career as financial secretary for his union.
Joe was predeceased by his wife of 37 years Mary Saccomani Mammana. He is also predeceased by brothers Tony, Ignazio, Frank and Sal. He is survived by his brother Vic of Camrillo, CA. and many nephews and nieces including Gary, Mark, Michael, Vic, Catherine, Gina, Marie Elena, Michelle, Nancy, Jonathan, Richard, Pamela, Frank and Adam. He is also survived by cousins Josphine, Giancarlo and Daniela Racanelli. There will be a visitation on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at the Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, NY followed by a prayer service at 12:00 PM.
