John Andrew Savarese passed on October 16, 2020 at the age of 97. He was born at home in Brooklyn, NY to Andreas and Sarah (Pisapia) Savarese, who have predeceased him along with his four siblings. He married Marjorie Azzaretti on Pearl Harbor Day 1947 and remained so until her death in 1982. John enlisted in the Navy on January 12, 1943 and served 28 months in the Pacific Theatre with the Construction Battalion, AKA The Sea Beas. He participated in the Battle of Guadicanal, Battle of Tarawa, and at Bouganville. He was honorably discharged on April 3, 1946 with the rank of Yeoman Third Class USNR.
John lived in Brooklyn his entire lifeand worked in his family's whole sale fish business. He was up early, 3:30am, to purchase the catches of the day at the Fulton Fish Market. Upon retiring a 65 he joined the Knights of Columbus, Baron DeKalb #1073 in Sheepshead Bay. He was very active for 30 years and has a lifetime membership. He proudly served as a Fourth Degree Knight and was an Inside Guard.
He is survived by his children AnnMarie and Lawrence, as well as grandsons John and James, and granddaughters DeAnna and Nadia. He has 5 great grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Monday - October 19, 2020 from 4 - 8 pm.
