John J. McGrath, Jr., 76, of The Villages, FL passed away on March 9, 2023. Born in the Bronx, NY on May 5, 1946 to John and Mary McGrath, he graduated from Evander Childs High School and commenced a career with Sheet Metal Workers Local 28 that spanned more than 30 years and saw him rise from apprentice to Executive Director of the Funds and Plans. He was a skilled musician with a beautiful singing voice, who often entertained family and friends at get-togethers and performed professionally at weddings and parties. Outgoing and big-hearted, he was always ready with a joke or story to amuse his many loving friends and family members, and he was an ardent supporter of several charities, most notably St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He loved his family, cigars, driving his golf cart to Spanish Springs to listen to the nightly music, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Bridget. He is survived by his three children, John (Christina), Michael (Maria), and Marie (Brian) Cordell, his six grandchildren, Johnny, Cassie, Patrick, Catherine, Luke, and Aidan, and many friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 24, 2023, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., Eastchester. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25, 2023, 9:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe followed by an inurnment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery
