John Lehodey sadly passed away last Saturday 21 October. He was born in 1933 in France to Jacques and Gabrielle.
After attending Hotel School in Thonon, completing his military service and working on the cruise ships that crossed the Atlantic , John moved to New York and fell in love with the US. He went from being a simple waiter at the Lutèce to front desk Manager and then the manager of the Towers at the Waldorf Astoria. He joined Accor in the early 70s and in 1979, moved to Minnesota where he met Bea and they would live a love affair that would last for more than 40 years… He established Sofitel North America, attended Harvard and was decorated by the government of France with the Legion d’Honneur.
‘Never is doubt’ is the expression that exemplifies him. His capacity for flexibility, to genuinely listen and understand opinions different from his own and incorporate them in his decision-making made him unique. Honesty, almost to the point of rudeness (you knew where you stood with him) and an unstoppable determination allowed him to not only achieve great success but also establish genuine trust.
John is survived by his wife Bea, his son Jacques (Celine) Lehodey and 3 Grandchildren (Camille, Alexandre and Antoine).
Please join us to celebrate his life Friday the 27th of October from 12 to 2PM at Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main St. Eastchester.
