Obituary for James S. Murphy

James Scott Murphy passed suddenly on May 28th, 2022 at the age of 61. On July 1st 1960, James was born to Mary Jane and John Murphy in Mount Vernon NY and grew up in Eastchester with his sister Janice Murphy Dingman. During his younger years you would find him playing his favorite sport football or hanging out with his best friends which he kept in close touch with all these years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and making fun memories with those around him.

Jimmy then went on to meet his wife Deborah Ann Salimbene in 1981 and they wed in 1985. After years of camping, exploring and going to concerts they settled down in Eastchester and had two wonderful daughters Melissa and Jessica. He worked as a Heavy Machine Operator with Verizon for 35 years. He was a loving and devoted father. From never missing his daughters softball games, helping with their academics, going on vacations and sharing his love of music by taking his girls to concerts. He was always involved. Music was a huge part of his life as well, so much that Jimmy and Debbie named their daughters after Allman Brothers songs. He was a die hard Grateful Dead fan.

Jimmy was a wonderful brother and uncle. His personality, humor and knowledge was infectious. The stories he would tell from the aftermath of 911 where he cleaned up the power lines underneath the rubble, random facts, and all the amazing memories he made with his friends, he always managed to light up every room he was in.

He then went on to become a wonderful grandfather. He went by pampaw and continued his devotion to his family through his grandkids. He was excited to be a great uncle.

Later in life you would find him inseparable from his dog Ryder, spending time with his sister Janice and brother-in-law Peter camping. Going out on dinner dates with his niece Jamie and watching movies with his nephew Craig.

Jimmy’s family will always be thankful for the laughs, memories, stories and family dinners shared with him. His sudden passing left a hole in all of our hearts.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Debbie, daughters Melissa (Eric) and Jessica. His sister Janice (Peter), nephew Craig, niece Jamie (Jon) and grandchildren Johnathan, Chance, Eddie and Sloan, Isabella, Gabriella, and Eric Jr.

Visitation will be held on Friday June 3rd, 2022 from 4-8pm at Westchester Funeral Home, Inc, Eastchester followed by a funeral service on Saturday June 4th, 2022 at 9:45am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale.
