Obituary for Jack Angelo Gravenese

Jack Gravenese, 89, Bronxville, died on March 30, 2024. Born August 3, 1934 to the late Pasquale and Mary (Raia) Gravenese in New York City. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Forlani) and his brothers Louis and Patrick. Jack is survived by son; Mark (Josephine Schwegel) Gravenese, daughters ;Dorian (Dan) Glickenhaus and Courtney (Andrew) Williams, grandchildren: Carly and Hannah Glickenhaus , Talia and Jack Williams., sister in laws Carol Forlani, Rosary Forlani.

Jack will be remembered for being a kind, humble man with a big heart and sense of humour. His curiosity to learn new things and his love of his children and grandchildren were the focus of his life. Dad lived modestly; he did not need material things to make him happy. He was committed to his wife, children and of course, his grandchildren. Dad served our country in the US Army, received his hair styling license, and with the support of his wife, bought and ran his successful hair salon, Riviera Hair Stylist in Larchmont, New York for 40 years.
Dad would say that his greatest achievement was raising and educating his three children and seeing his grandchildren grow into amazing young adults.

Growing up we have fond memories of Sunday pasta dinners, listening to country music on Sunday mornings, watching Jet games, and sharing his stories and his 'Jack'isms. He loved telling us stories about his days of service in Paris and he spoke highly of the people he worked with. He was great with people and loved to share his observations about what he learned working in the service industry for so many years. He had an amazing memory for details about history and was quite the movie buff. We could always depend on him to know which actor played what role in a great number of movies.

His grandchildren enjoyed the beach vacations and holidays that we all spent together. His time on the beach was very special. He loved the water and always wanted to be with the kids close by the water's edge. He bonded with them by playing checkers, cutting their hair, wearing their college gear, and just teaching the proper way to dunk a cookie!

We will miss him terribly. We promised him that we would make him ( and mom) proud and continue the legacy: We will be humble, be kind and live by the golden rule and always reinforce the importance of a strong family.

May he rest in peace with Mom now.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
