Obituary for Hippocrates Kourakos

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Hippocrates Peter Kourakos died peacefully on November 30, 2022, at the age of 84, surrounded by his adoring family.

“Hippy”, “Hip”, “Hippo” and “the Hipster”, as he was affectionately known, was born and raised in the Bronx. He came from a tight-knit family and was the youngest of eight children. He attended college at Fordham University and obtained a law degree from St. John’s University. Family meant everything to Hip and he was always happy and proud to be the “family” lawyer.

Some of his greatest accomplishments included pitching for a professional baseball league in Canada as a young man, being instrumental as an attorney in the redevelopment of the South Bronx, and regularly scoring an 80 or under in golf. Intelligent, gentle, generous and charming – Hippy made an impact on every person he met. He was a positive, optimistic, and preternaturally calm person who worried very little and loved life very much.

Hippy is survived by his adoring wife and soulmate of 60 years, Pat, his son Greg and daughter-in-law Xiaoyun, his daughter Janine and son-in-law Nick, and grandchildren Mikey, Sofia, Anyi, Jin, and Jaxs.

In Lieu of Flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Hippy’s name.
