Obituary for Grazia Alfonzetti (Pontillo)

Grazia Alfonzetti, 90, a longtime resident of Tuckahoe, passed away on March 13, 2020. Grazia is survived by her children, Domenic Alfonzetti and his wife Kathleen, JoAnne Wilson and her husband Lawrence, Victoria Alfonzetti, Maria Cocucci and her husband Hugo. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Christina Wilson and Yasemin Tulca, Kathleen Alfonzetti, James Wilson, Daniela Cocucci, Julia Alfonzetti, Adriana Cocucci and Marc Cocucci. She was born on October 15, 1929 in Scilla, Reggio Calabria, Italy to the late Giovanni and Vittoria (Siclari) Pontillo and was predeceased by her husband Joseph Alfonzetti, her parents Giovanni and Vittoria Siclari Pontillo and a brother Cosimo Pontillo. Growing up amidst the struggles of Southern Italy during World War II, she always told stories, not only about the struggles during that time, but of all of the wonderful times she had swimming in the beautiful sea of Scilla. Her stories were endless as well as her many Calabrian proverbs. She was an exquisite cook and was an avid watcher of the TV Food Network and the Cooking Channel and was a big fan of The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal. She instilled a strong love of family, food and work ethic to her children and in turn her grandchildren. Her beautiful smile, her quick wit and her strong will will be deeply missed and will be forever in the hearts of her family. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2020, 4 - 8 PM at THE WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, 10:30 AM at the Assumption Church, Tuckahoe. Entombment will follow at the Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Assumption Church, c/o Immaculate Conception Rectory, 53 Winterhill Road, Tuckahoe, NY.
