Obituary for Giuseppe Giannelli

Giuseppe (Joe) Giannelli of Tuckahoe, New York passed away on March 1, 2023 at the age of 94.

Born in Bari, Italy on July 19, 1928 to Vitantonio and Vincenza Giannelli, Joe grew up during a time of political and economic upheaval. He met the love of his life Clara, and married her on January 16, 1948, at the age of 20. In pursuit of the American Dream of opportunity, family, and purpose, Joe and Clara immigrated to New York in 1951 and settled in Mount Vernon before moving into their home in Tuckahoe, where they raised five children, Tony (Marge, deceased), Carmine (Jane), Virginia Schurek (Michael), Joe (Maddy), and Larry (ToniAnn). With an unwavering work ethic, Joe learned many trades and became a successful entrepreneur. He founded and built a robust landscaping business that served his community, while satisfying his passion for real estate through investments and property management. He took tremendous pride in his own home and garden, sharing home-cooked Italian meals with his growing family, and his time spent walking on the beach with his wife at their second part-time residence in Palm Beach, Florida. With a loving and resilient spirit, Joe was a strong presence in the lives of his grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, Kimberly, Sam, Jenna, Melissa, Dana, Jillian, and Kristen, and gracefully witnessed the birth of nine great-grandchildren. Joe was a member of the Assumption Church in Tuckahoe and is survived by his siblings Michael (Felicetta, deceased), Antonio (Eldima), Sabino and Lena (Gus) Joaquim, and is predeceased by his brother Lorenzo (Maria).

Visitation will be held at Westchester Funeral Home, Inc., Sunday, March 5, 2:00-6:00 p., with a Catholic mass held at Assumption Church on March 6, 2023, at 10:30a.m. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. All family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
