Obituary for Georgiene Walsh (Rinko)

Georgiene M. Walsh (nee Rinko), 83, lifelong resident of Eastchester, passed away peacefully with family members by her side on February 1, 2019. Georgiene shared 54 years of marriage with her loving husband Warren W. Walsh prior to his passing in 2013. Georgiene’s life was devoted to her faith, raising her children, adoring her grandchildren, volunteering in the community and schools, reading, traveling and enjoying time with friends. The daughter of Mildred (Capparella) and Chester Rinko, Georgiene was born on October 22, 1935 in Bronxville and lived in Eastchester her entire life. Georgiene attended Waverly Elementary School and graduated from Eastchester High School in 1953. She graduated from Westchester Community College in 1955, worked at IBM and enjoyed her 35 years as a teacher at the Bronxville Nursery School and the Ethical Culture Nursery School. On May 2, 1959, she married Warren W. Walsh of the Bronx and raised 2 children in Eastchester. Georgiene was a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, PTA President, member of the EHS Sports Booster Club, Eastchester Beautification Committee and Historical Society, an active participant in the senior programs and a Meals on Wheels volunteer. A devout Catholic, she attended mass regularly at Assumption of our Lady in Tuckahoe, a place of worship that her grandfather built. She was an active parishioner, a proud member of the Altar Rosary Society and a CCD teacher. Georgiene was predeceased by her husband Warren and her parents Millie and Chester. She is survived by her children Valerie (Gabe) Palacio and Michael (Nan) Walsh, and her grandchildren Matthew, Katie and Alex Palacio and April and Christian Walsh. The Family will receive friends at the Westchester Funeral Home, Eastchester on Tuesday, February 5th, from 4-8pm. Mass Wednesday, February 6th, at 9:30am Assumption of our Lady in Tuckahoe.
